Outbrain Server-Side Tracking is available for those using Elevar's Fully Managed server. This integration is not available if you are using your own server.
With Elevar, you have two options for setting up Outbrain event tracking
- If you haven't installed our Shopify Source in your Elevar App. Follow our guide on How to Implement the Shopify Source.
In your Elevar App, navigate to My Tracking > Select Add Destination > Find and select Outbrain.
You'll be taken to an Overview Page, select Get Started.
By default, we've already selected the standard recommended events for you! Most likely, you won't need to adjust anything.
You will need to name each you are passing to Outbrain. These events should match the names of your event based conversions in Outbrain. You may need to create new conversions if your existing conversions are URL based.
Select Save to continue to the next step.
If consent is required, follow these steps to enable consent mode & select your consent categories.
If consent is not required, select Save & Continue.
Select your Transaction Identifier that will be passed to Outbrain for purchase events.
Select Save & Continue.
This step allows you to control exactly what purchase events are sent to Outbrain. You can block orders based on Source Channel Names, Order Tags or Order Gateways.
If you select the recommended "Block some transactions" exchange orders are blocked. Thinking you may need to block additional orders? Learn how to block these orders in this guide.
Otherwise, select Save to continue.
Not sure if you need to block orders? Look at what Sales Channels you have in Shopify!
Do you sell subscription products? If you do, you can choose to send first-time orders only or first-time + recurring orders to your marketing destination.
Select Go Live on the Overview Page to launch your new Outbrain tracking.
Remove any previous tracking you've had hardcoded in your theme or tags in Google Tag Manager(GTM).
Test that the new Elevar Events are passing the data that you need.
If you have created new conversion events in Outbrain you will want to update your campaigns to optimize towards your new purchase event. If you exclude a purchase audience segment you will also want to update this in your campaigns.
