How to Set Up Consentmo Consent Mode with Elevar's Google Consent Mode Integration
Your are ready to enable consent mode within Elevar and are using Consentmo as your consent provider
Overview
Consentmo offers a consent management platform specifically built for Shopify. This allows users to install an app in Shopify that manages the complexities of GDPR and CCPA compliance. Consentmo is a popular consent platform because of its focus on Shopify vendors, and its easy installation process.
Getting Started with Consentmo + Elevar:
Before setting up Consentmo for your Shopify store, follow these steps:
- Install Consentmo App in your Shopify Store
- Ensure you have the Consentmo app installed from the Shopify App Store.
- Enable Consent Mode in Your Shopify Source. To enable Consent Mode, follow our guide on how to Enable Consent Mode in your Shopify Source.
Add Consentmo's Google Consent Mode (GCM) Script
Add to your Theme:
- Follow this guide from Consemto to update your current install to be compatible with Google Consent Mode and therefore compatible with Elevar.
Import Consento Container to GTM:
- Download the Consemto Pre-Built Tags.
- Once you have imported the Consemto tags, import the tags into your GTM account. Follow this guide to learn how to import tags into GTM.

Publish Your Changes in GTM:
- After importing, submit your changes in Google Tag Manager to publish them.

Bonus: Blocking Scripts Loaded Directly In Shopify (Not In Google Tag Manager)
You may have certain scripts on your site that load directly from your Shopify theme. For example, you may have Klaviyo app installed in Shopify. If this is the case you'll need to block this separately. Anything that does not load from GTM will need explicit blocking through . To accomplish this you'll need to write a regex for the urls these tags send information too, or contact directly to have them do this for you.
How to Set Up the Google Tag Manager Template for Consentmo GDPR CMP
Follow this guide to learn hwo to set up the Consentmo GDPR CMP in your Google Tag Manager.
Enable Consent Overview:
- Navigate to the "Admin" tab in your Google Tag Manager dashboard.
- Click on the "Container Settings" tab.
- Under the "Additional settings", find and click on the the ‘Enable consent overview’ checkbox.
- After making the desired changes, be sure to click on the "Save" button.
Add Consentmo GDPR CMP from Community Template Gallery:
- In Google Tag Manager, navigate to the "Workspace" tab and use the left-hand menu to click on the "Tags" tab. Then locate and click on the "New" button.
- In the Tag Configuration box, locate and click on the "Choose a tag type to begin setup" button. Then, click on the "Discover more tag types in the Community Template Gallery" button.
- Use the search function and type "Consentmo" into the text box. Then, click on the "Choose Template" button.
- In the Triggering box, click on the "Choose a trigger to make this tag fire" option. Select "Consent Initialization - All Pages".
- Rename the tag from "Untitled Tag" to "Consentmo".
- Save the changes.
