How to Set Up Commission Junction (CJ) Affiliate Web Tracking via Google Tag Manager

Overview
Without a single line of code, Elevar helps you implement your Commission Junction tracking pixel and conversion event to Shopify through Google Tag Manager using the most up-to-date requirements from each platform.
These templates come with built-in monitoring so you’re the first to know when a tag breaks and risks impacting your campaigns. Additionally, this integration supports the complete tracking implementation required by Commission Junction affiliate tracking.

Prerequisites:
Install Elevar's Data Layer & Shopify Source on your store. Follow our guide on How to Implement the Shopify Source.
Update Variables & Download Container for GTM
There are three variables that need to be updated to match your CJ account details. These 3 variables are the constants that CJ provides in their onboarding documentation:
- Company ID
- Action Tracker ID
- Tag ID
Download the Pre-Built CJ Affiliate Tags
Locate CJ Affiliate Container:
- Begin on the homepage of your Elevar app. Use the left-hand navigation menu and click on the tab titled "Pre-Build Tags".
- Use the search function to locate and click on the CJ Affiliate Pixel Container.

Download CJ Affiliate Container:
- Once in the CJ Affiliate Container, navigate to the box titled "Download Container".
- Update your 3 unique CJ variables in the tag settings.
- Click on the button labeled "Download Container".

Import the Pre-Built CJ Affiliate Tags into GTM
Import Container:
- Log in to your Google Tag Manager Account.
- Select your GTM Web Container.
- Click on the "Admin" button located in the upper menu bar.
- Use the right-hand menu under the "Container" section and click on the tab labeled "Import Container".

Import Container Information:
- Under the "Select file to import" section, click on the "Select File" button and choose the CJ Affiliate Container that was previously downloaded.
- Under the "Choose workplace" section, create a new workplace titled "CJ Affiliate Tracking".
- Next be sure to select the "Merge" option first, then the "Overwrite conflicting tags, triggers, and variables" option second.
- Once you have completed filling out the necessary details for this container, click on the "Confirm" button located at the bottom of the page.

[Optional] QA the New Tags with Google Tag Manager's Preview Mode
- Follow our guide to QA your tags in Google Tag Manager (GTM) preview mode.
- It’s likely that your CJ rep has provided 4 unique scenarios to test:
- Order without coupon code and 1 item
- Order without coupon code and 2 items
- Order with coupon code and 1 item
- Order with coupon code and 2 items
- They will give you unique click URLs to test each scenario. Once you’ve completed each test order then email your CJ rep to confirm.
Publish the Pre-Built Tags
- After importing the CJ Affiliate tag container, you will be brought back to the Google Tag Manager homepage.
- In your CJ Affiliate Tracking workspace, click on the "Submit" button in the upper right hand corner of the page.
- An additional confirmation page will appear. Be sure to click on the "Publish" button in the upper right-hand corner of the page.
