add_to_cart Sending Duplicate Data


The Issue:

  • After implementing Elevar’s Tag Management Suite App, if you see that your "addtocart" tag is sending duplicate data. Please follow the troubleshooting steps below.
  • This usually happens when you have the Google Shopping App installed and have also implemented Elevar’s remarketing tags for your Google AdWords remarketing campaigns


Note: Elevar’s tag is ‘dl_add_to_cart’ and Google Shopping’s tag is formatted like add_to_cart

The Solution:

To solve this issue, you have to decide whether to implement remarketing through Elevar (GTM) or Google Shopping. Having both will sometimes lead to duplicate Google Ads tracking.

  • The Shopify/Google setup operates similarly to ours, sending custom retail data to your Google Ads account for use in remarketing campaigns. Therefore, the decision of which setup to use is more of a business preference.
  • If you want to implement remarketing using Google Shopping, we would recommend pausing the Google Ads tags inside of GTM to prevent duplicate data reporting.
