What is Shopify Markets?
- Shopify Markets is a feature that enables you to manage multiple market groups within your Shopify store, allowing you to define and track different market segments with specific pixels and Google Tag Manager containers.
How many market groups can I define?
- You can define up to five market groups within Shopify Markets. Each market group can contain one or more markets, providing you with the flexibility to segment and target your audience.
How are Google Tag Manager containers managed with Shopify Markets?
- Google Tag Manager containers are specified per market group. Within each destination, you can select which market group to associate with each pixel, allowing for tailored tracking and data collection for each market segment.
How does Shopify Markets handle data?
- Shopify Markets splits data by market group, both on the client and server side. This ensures that your tracking and analytics are accurately segmented according to the market group definitions.
Is Shopify Markets compatible with headless installations?
- Yes, Shopify Markets is compatible with headless installations. However, additional code is required to identify the headless portion of your site to ensure proper market identification and tracking.
How is a market identified and mapped?
- A market is identified and mapped to the market name using the Shopify Market ID. This ID is available from the liquid pre-checkout and the web pixel for checkout events.
What happens if an order does not have a Market ID or is from an unconfigured market?
- Fallbacks are available for orders without a Market ID and for unconfigured markets. These fallbacks help handle scenarios such as offline orders or cases where the headless setup identifies a market not yet configured.
What are the requirements for using Shopify Markets?
To use Shopify Markets, you need to meet the following requirements:
- DataLayer version 3.19+
- Checkout tracking using Custom Pixel
- Shopify Store using Checkout Extensibility
- Elevar Business, Growth, or Enterprise plan
Are there any limitations with Shopify Markets?
Yes, there are a few limitations to be aware of:
- Single instance destinations continue to allow only a single destination.
- Market configuration varies by platform. For example, some platforms like Snapchat, Pinterest, and Awin allow configuring markets, while others, such as Outbrain and Taboola, work based on click IDs and do not support market configuration.
