How to Find Main Overarching Domain
Learn how to find the main overarching domain
Overview
In order to set up the Non-Shopify Attribution Tracking, you'll need to identify your main overarching domain.
Subdomains
If your non-shopify pages use subdomains, you could have URLs that look like this:
- blog.website.com
- shop.website.com
- go.website.com
In this scenario, your main overarching domain is "website.com".
Subdirectories
If your non-shopify pages use subdirectories, you could have URLs that look like this:
- website.com/shop
- website.com/blog
In this scenario, your main overarching domain is "website.com".
Cross Domain/Different Domains
If your Non-Shopify pages use different domains, you could have URLs that look like this:
- website.com
- shopwebsite.com
In this scenario, the Non-Shopify Attribution Tracking would not work.
Never include a "http" in the Main Overarching Domain
The main overarching domain should always follow the format of "website.com". It should never include an http or https. Adding an http or https can cause attribution data loss.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use MyShopify URL?
- No, you should use your public domain (a.k.a. the URL that your shoppers will use like "website.com") and not your myShopify URL.
- If you don't have a public domain yet and are testing out Elevar on a development store, you can use "myshopify.com" as the Main Overarching Domain. Just be sure to change it back after you do get a public domain.
Can I use my Headless Development URL?
- The short answer is, ideally you shouldn't.
- Let's say you're building a headless website and your headless url is "website-2348923a23vf3.o2.myshopify.dev". If you have a public domain (a.k.a. the URL that your shoppers will use like "website.com") you should use that public domain as the main overarching domain.
- If you don't have a public domain yet and are testing out Elevar on a development store, you can use your Headless URL as the Main Overarching Domain. In my example above, the main overarching domain would be "myshopify.dev". Just be sure to change it back after you do get a public domain.
