Introducing Shopify Markets: Send data to different pixels per Shopify Market! This release also includes support for attribution tracking for multiple domains, Google Ads destination updates, and cart reconciliation for tracking with Shopify's web pixel.

Data Layer

Cart Reconciliation:

  • Cart reconciliation now works with Shopify Custom Pixel tracking setup. When enabled, an Add to Cart event is triggered for products in the cart on checkout pages that have not previously triggered an Add to Cart event for that session.

Data Layer Debugger Update:

  • The Data Layer Debugger now considers when dl_view_cart is triggered from the mini cart and will no longer display the bad event order warning in this case.

Market ID Storage:

  • We are now storing the Market ID for each event.

Consent Values:

  • Consent values are now prioritized in the Data Layer.

Destinations

Google Ads:

  • Merchant ID: The Merchant ID is now optional for Google Ads server-side destination.
  • Pageview Event Removed: The Pageview event has been removed from the Google Ads server-side destination.
  • View Item Event: Google’s API team has informed us that their API has a variable rate limit. To ensure your Google Ads purchase tracking is not affected by this rate limit, we will no longer allow users to enable the View Item event in the Google Ads server-side destination.
    • If you already have the View Item event enabled, your tracking will continue to work, but we will be reaching out to users over time to migrate their View Item tracking to client-side instead of server-side.
    • To reduce Google Ads rate limit errors, we recommend disabling your Google Ads server View Item event and setting it up client-side instead.

Universal Analytics:

  • Universal Analytics Removal: The Universal Analytics server-side destination has been removed.
    • As previously notified by Google, on July 1, 2024, Universal Analytics properties will be fully replaced by Google Analytics 4 properties. From that date, Google will begin turning off all Universal Analytics services and APIs, meaning Universal Analytics properties will no longer be accessible.

Audiohook:

  • Audiohook has been removed as a server-side destination. We recommend using the GTM pre-built container for client-side tracking.

Pinterest and Partnerize:

  • Updated destination considerations for Pinterest and Partnerize.

Destination Web Containers:

  • Container Format Change: Destination web containers now download as .zip files. Once downloaded, extract the folder within the .zip file. This folder contains a JSON file for each GTM container applicable to the destination. Import each file into the corresponding GTM containers whose ID matches the ID in the file name.

Platform

  • Market Group Setup: Enable Shopify Markets from within your Shopify Source to define market groups and associate them with your GTM containers. Then update destinations to split data by market for your marketing destinations.
  • GTM Container Requirements: Setup requires the use of different GTM containers per defined market group.
  • Headless Shopify Compatibility: This feature is also compatible with headless Shopify stores.
  • Requirements:
    • Plans: Requires being in a Growth, Business, or Enterprise plan [Explore Plans].
    • Shopify Source Requirements: You must be up to date with your Shopify Source, including using Shopify Custom Pixel for checkout tracking and updating to Elevar's 3.19 Data Layer.
    • Shopify Checkout Extensibility Requirement: Shopify's deadline to upgrade to Checkout Extensibility is August 13th, 2024.

Event Builder:

  • Chrome Extension Updates: The Chrome extension has been updated to include refreshed images, fixed broken links, and the removal of references to Universal Analytics.

Sources

Non-Shopify Subdomains:

  • Multiple Domains Support: Non-Shopify Subdomains now support multiple domains for subdomain attribution tracking! Attribution continues to be shared across subdomains but not across different domains.
    • Example 1: shop.store.com will share attribution across store.com and other subdomains of store.com.
    • Example 2: shop.another-store.com will share attribution with another-store.com and other subdomains of another-store.com.
    • Example 3: Any store.com page will not share attribution with any another-store.com page.

Reporting

Conversion Accuracy Reports:

  • Conversion Accuracy Reports will now only display the consent flag for a destination if consent is enabled in the Shopify Source.
